Some of my new favorite buys

Its raining like crazy outside so I though'd I'd post a few of my new favorite things.

So of course I have been shopping like a maniac lately but mostly thrifting. These are some of my most recent purchases. I am a total magaziniac and buy all the my favorites: Marie Claire, Elle, Lucky and Glamour. I'm not a subscription kind of girl but I'm actually thinking of subscribing to Marie Claire and Elle because it will help me save a little money. I just hate waiting. I want it right when it hits the stands, not 2 days later. I even picked up this Vogue because of the stunning editorials when i thumbed through it at CVS.

These Steve Madden Gold lame and wood sling back platform pumps are definitely my favorite purchase of the moment. I got them about one week ago at Nordstrom Rack. They were 30% off! Guess how much I paid for them....$25!!! Can we say in unison..fashion STEELE!!!!! Can't wait until Spring to whip these man eaters out!

This is my favorite new shoulder purse by BCBGeneration. I love that its white patent snakeskin with gold accents. Its super summer like and more importantly big enough to fit atleast half of my life into. Best part is I got it on sale for $39 at Loehmanns (my new favorite department store). The one on 73rd is freaking AMAZING! I also upgraded my existence by getting a new droid phone...Ally for Verizon. I love it because its touch screen, and has a keypad. I've never been so inlove with a phone before!

I got this amazing vintage sheer with lace detailed collar and sleeves from one of my vintage frequent stores Finderz Keeperz Vintage Boutique on Harlem. Can you believe it was only $10. Isn't the detailing on the extra long sleeves amazing. Ugh I die. I can't wait to wear this!

These are my favorite nail colors of the moment. Still waiting on my Essie Smokin Hot though! Damn you New York City and all your savvy nail lovers who have bleed the city dry of Essie Smokin hot nail polish!

I also scored these great little flats from Urban Outfitter..on sale!
Favorites Buys
Marie Claire (this March issue is chalk full of amazing affordable finds! and they did a FIT me Maybelline spread combined with What I Love About Me and it was brilliant and I love the new FIT me! Makeup by Maybelline. Its almost better than Makeup Forever and wayyyyyy cheaper. I'm 355!)
ELLE (loving the style A to Zee everything you need for Spring)
Purse: BCBGeneration via Loehmanns
Top: Vintage via Finderz Keepers Vintage Boutique
Nail Colors: American Apparel Mac Arthur Park, Loreal Paris Mango Get-Em, MatteseElite (knockoff Smoking Hot), Essie Sew Psyched

Black Velvet Sunshine

I was thifting a few days ago at the Salvation Army on 125th St in Harlem (During my lunch break...I know I know I'm a thriftaholic) when I came across this lovely pale yellow A-Line Skirt. I fell in love with it. I got it for only $4...Fashion STEELE! I've been really into maxi skirts or ankle length skirts lately with either fitted blazers or oversized sweaters. The combination is perfect for those balmy days in later Winter/early Spring.

Got this great silver bangle from an African Shop on 125th St. See more of my finds from that shop HERE!!!!

Got this little bag as well the same time I got this skirt. Its so dainty but can fit a lot inside it!
Only $3!!!!

 Outfit
Blazer: Lovely Day via Necessary Objects
Velvet Tank Top: Cope via Urban Outfitters
Skirt: Thrifted
Bag: Thifted
Earrings: Urban Outffiters
Shoes: NYLA Sully Clog via DSW
I have been thrifting up a storm lately. I really need to stop. This velvet top I got the other day while at Urban Outfitters at the Around The World Designer Showcase. It was on sale and 30% off so I only paid $6 for it! Total for the top, skirt and bag is a whooping $13! Of Course I then went and got these feather earrings from Urban as well!

I was a little apprehensive about wearing velvet so late in the Winter. But it works with this bright yellow.
What do you all think about wearing velvet in the warmer months of Spring and Summer???

Soothing and Soft

I love these soft green harems I recently got from H&M. The color is so soothing. I paired it with a cream top and one of my favorite comfortable cardigans.

I got these earrings like 4 years ago and cant remember where from but I love them!

One of my favorite charm bracelets with sea shells.

Paired them with my Jessica Simpson Danys and fishnet AA fishnet socks.
 Outfit
Cardigan: Nine West
Top: Final Touch
Pants: American Apparel check out more great trousers of mine from H&M HERE and from American Apparel HERE
Shoes: Jessica Simpson Dany Platform

I'm so ready for Spring. These pants are the perfect shade of soft green. February is the shortest month of the year but its dragging on and kicking for dear life. Anyone have any Spring Break plans next month? I'm thinking of planning a surprise visit home to North Carolina to visit the family in about 2 weeks. Its been too long and I miss them!
It's a rainy day today so I'm going to stay in and relax while eating an assortment or junk food and catching up on my TV shows! Is anyone else excited about the Oscars this Sunday? I don't really care too much about the films. I just want to see what everyone is wearing!

I've also started an NYC Fashion Bloggers Meetup Group on Meetup.com
I have some meetups in mind where we bloggers can socialize and get to know one another, thrift shop and experience the amazing fashion in the city.
If you are in the area please join and spread the word!

a Celebration at aloft

Last night was my good friend Kenecia's Birthday bash at aloft Hotel's new sleek lounge and bar WXYZ in Harlem. This modern hotel recently opened in Harlem and it is amazing. The decor is modern and edgy, the food and drinks were delicious and the crowd young and fashionable. This was definitely the perfect spot for Kenecia's party. We had a great time

Sheena and Kenecia got the party started in the awesome hotel room at aloft with some wine and delicious spring rolls from the lounge!

Our good friend Atim showed up. She is a talented model and actor. Check her out Atim Online

Alicia and I decided to play a game of pool. She beat me but only by one!

All the girls!

Outfit
Dress: Rachel Roy (got it onsale for $29! fashion STEELE!!!)
Blazer: BB Dakota via Loehmanns
Sheer stockings: American Apparel
Boots: NYLA Sully Clog
Bag: Thrifted
Earrings: Bebe

Kenecia's dress is Guess

I had a great time last night. The atmosphere was just perfect. I think I will be making more visits to aloft! Kenecia was very excited and I'm glad I got to spend this special birthday with her. I met Kenecia and Sheena at church. I had just moved to Harlem, just graduated from NYU and didn't have many friends. I vowed that day that I'd make a new friend and that morning at church I met the two of them.

It was one of the best things that's happened to me since I moved to NY. Kenecia had this leopard dress on and I said to myself: this fashion maven and I are going to be friends! Kenecia is a very talented human being, make-up artist and a talented lyricist and actor. This girl is going to be MAJOR!
Its funny, I've actually met most of my good friends at church including Stephanie and Alicia.

It's hard to make good friends in this fast city which is why I love living in Harlem. It's a little slower than downtown NYC and feels a little more like home (North Carolina) to me. I also think its great that new establishments like aloft and wxyz lounge are popping up all over Harlem.

Mod

I thrifted this dress about 2 years ago and I'd never worn it until now! I even had it tailored. It used to be longer. I wanted to make it into a mini dress and that's what I did. It actually cost more to alter the dress than I paid for the dress...which was about $5. I really love the pattern and its just so Mod!

Outfit
Dress: Thrifted see another of my favorite vintage lace dress HERE!!!!!
Tights: American Apparel
Shoes: Jessica Simpson Dany Platform
Earrings: Random African Shop on 125th St

I really love the pattern on the dress and thought it'd go perfectly with my Jessica Simpson Platforms. We had a little snow Monday but most of it is gone now..YAY! I hope that groundhog was right because this Winter has been brutal! I've been spending like a true shopaholic and been eating chocolate chip cookies for dinner. I know I know, I should treat my wallet and tummy kinder but I'm just failing miserably at keeping a budget. At least its only thrifting...you know $17 dollars here $20 dollars there and I end up with 8 new outfits. LOL.
So technically I'm saving in the long run...right? (My logic is Undeniable: Quote from iRobot)
Today was a great day. I did a little thrifting, ate the best penne alla vodka I've ever had in my life (mouth orgasm!!!), then worked a half day! Tonight we are celebrating my good friend Kenecia's birthday at a new bar Aloft XYZ in Harlem. Can't wait to pop some bottles.

What do you all think of this dress?
