NEW YORK CITY SUNDAYS

I'm spending this Sunday chilling at home because its a million degrees outside. I did however make my way to Target this morning before the sun started boiling New York City. I managed to buy a lot of things I don't need and some things that I really needed. I intended to spend only $50 but ofcourse yall know how things get at Target and I ended up spending double that. Le Sigh. Anywho, here's whats been going on in my neck of the world this weekend.

Neighborhood Hopping
Yesterday I hit up Williamsburg with the boy. I swear if I ever get semi rich I will buy a townhouse off a quaint street in Williamsburg. I just love how small and quiet yet hip it is. It was bursting with activity yesterday too. There were tons of folks doing stoop sales and all the little cafes and coffee shops along Bedford Avenue were packed with Brooklyns finest. It's a great place to people watch too. The boy and I checked out some shops before heading to the Smorgasborg and getting some food. We then sat by the water for awhile before taking a nap in a grassy knoll. It was the perfect day really and we topped it off with a trip to a really cool coffee place, complete with vintage phones and type writers.

Candle Shopping
The bulk of my overspending at Target happened because of my obsession with candles. I love candles but not just any candles, white candles and green candles. it is a full blown obsession. I usually burn a candle (or 5) on a daily basis. My favorite candle in the world in the Tahitian Vanilla Candle from World Market. OMG. Its like a vacation in a jar. The Pacific Island Soy candle comes in as a close second favorite candle scent.

Instagram Stalking
Like everyone else with an iphone I have a full blown obsession with instagram along with a book marked list of "users" I explore on a daily (well hourly) basis. They range from some of my favorite bloggers to singers, to people famous for dating people, to DJs. Check them out if you are looking for for interesting flicks.

Super Moons and Movie Watching
I hope you caught the super moon last night. It was literally breathtaking and just stunning. the boy alerted me to it and it was so big and bright I almost cried at the sight of how beautiful it was. Its funny how nature can make you feel so incredibly small sometimes but in the best way possible. last night we stayed in and watched one of my favorite movies of all time, Brown Sugar. Man I love that movie. Here is a list of other favorites: Road To Perdition, Romeo & Juliet (yes the one with Leonardo Dicaprio and Clair Danes), The Notebook (sue me), The Pianist, Coming To America, Boomerang, The Time Travelers Wife, Short Circuit and A Beautiful Mind.

Have a great Sunday lovers!

I scored this See by Chloe romper a few months ago during one of my Thrift and The City shopping tours. It clocked in a $20 and is one of my favorite thrift finds yet along with this dress and this necklace and purse. I visited the Brooklyn Flea recently and stocked up on some rings from Artist and Fleas and some Fish and Chips from my favorite vendor at the flea.

im so glad its finally warming up. i will be doing lots of thrift tours this spring and summer so make sure to check them out. for more information on the tours click here. I also wrote an ebook about where to thrift in NYC and Brooklyn and score great deals! I'm always delighted when I find something so awesome for a lot less than it would be in a store. If you haven't visited the Brooklyn Flea it is a must do! The food is amazing and the views of Manhattan are breathtaking.

a day in williamsburg

my friend Sheena and I decided to meet up this past sunday and make a day of it in williamsburg brooklyn. i do love the whole hometown feel of williamsburg even with all the Ray Ban wearing hipsters. its so beautiful around the water and everywhere you turn there are quaint thrift shops and mom and pop restuarants. i can't afford to live there though. i've noticed that it has come up so quickly and more and more beautiful buildings are sprouting up that i cant afford. it seems to be happening in Harlem as well. im beginning to worry that eventually the rent will be too damn high and i will have to move out of manhattan. le sigh. but for now...i just enjoy visiting..eating...and thrifting it up.
