top knot

 photo IMG_0736683x1024_zps824058e7.jpg
my photographer begged and I mean begged me to do a shoot with my Senegalese twist up in a bun. honestly I don't like the way it looks and it takes to long to get it all up. I only ever put a hair tie in it when im working, showering, or sleeping. any other time its always down. but its nice to see what I look like with it buned up. im wearing one of my favorite shirt/jackets from Rachel Roy with a cool skirt from ASOS. BTW this photo is what happens when you start singing Rihanna's song Cake and your photog catches you in the moment. lol.

Top/Jacket: Rachel Roy | Skirt: ASOS | Shoes: L.A.M.B. | Earrings: American Apparel

I love the contrast of colors between the skirt and the top. At first I was wondering what to wear with this skirt and it just came to me. I like the way it turned out. You can see this skirt worn differently here and the jacket worn differently here. What I really need to do is organize my Fall/Winter and Spring/Summer closets. I'm also thinking of redecorating my office space to included lots of shelving for my shoes. If you have any idea's send them my way!

my first missoni

i'd been eyeing this Missoni skirt at Loehmanns for the longest time but really couldn't justify blowing $200 for a skirt. i am still a frugalista at heart. but as if the Missoni God's knew what I was thinking everything Missoni at Loehmanns was a cool 35% off with an additional $25 dollars off. thank goodness for coupons and memberships. I walked away with this skirt for less than $90.
Jacket/Top: Rachel Roy | Skirt: Missoni | Booties: Via Spiga | Bag: Rebecca Minkoff

this jacket was also a fashion STEELE! Daffy's was having this amazing going out of business sale and i scored this Rachel Roy jacket for $19. Yes...$19!!!!! i could hardly believe it myself. i love the assymetrical cut of the jacket too! i wish the Fall would last a little longer so i can get some more wear out of this skirt before the Winter. i don think it will look as good with opaque tights. ugh...gotta get ready to pack my gams away for the winter.

What to Wear: For a Night Out

so you are going out for a night out whether that be dancing the night away with your girls or going to a lounge to sip drinks and listen to some music with your beau.
there are some pieces that are perfect for this type of event.
i always steer toward a fitted dress for these types of events.
and by fitted i mean tight enough to show that you're a woman but classy enough to show that you're a lady.

Dress: Rachel Roy | Shoes: Zara | Bag: c/o Rebecca Minkoff M.A.C. Mini
For evening you should bring out the big guns...and by big guns i mean the highest, sexiest heels you've got. But keep in mind if you are going to be dancing...keep the heel as thick as possible and bring a pair of fast flats for the cab ride home. lawd knows your feet will be hurting if you like to dance like i like to dance! I also usually carry a clutch at night so i can be free of clutter.
i wore this outfit out for Epic Thursdays. Yes I just made that up but seriously my Thursday night was EPIC. First stop Butter for cocktails, followed by dinner at Republic (banging 90s hip hop playing as I ate my chicken pesto). That was then followed by more drinks at my friends friend Irish Pub. Interesting music...triple sec drinks! That was then followed up by dancing at Bar 13 (free shots and grinding with very handsome gay men), followed by a more pretentious crowd at RDV in meatpacking. It was awesome. I havent partied like that since I was 18 and my legs still hurt lol.
To get a similar look try this dress or this dress!
Stay tuned for the rest of the What to Wear Series.

a Celebration at aloft

Last night was my good friend Kenecia's Birthday bash at aloft Hotel's new sleek lounge and bar WXYZ in Harlem. This modern hotel recently opened in Harlem and it is amazing. The decor is modern and edgy, the food and drinks were delicious and the crowd young and fashionable. This was definitely the perfect spot for Kenecia's party. We had a great time

Sheena and Kenecia got the party started in the awesome hotel room at aloft with some wine and delicious spring rolls from the lounge!

Our good friend Atim showed up. She is a talented model and actor. Check her out Atim Online

Alicia and I decided to play a game of pool. She beat me but only by one!

All the girls!

Outfit
Dress: Rachel Roy (got it onsale for $29! fashion STEELE!!!)
Blazer: BB Dakota via Loehmanns
Sheer stockings: American Apparel
Boots: NYLA Sully Clog
Bag: Thrifted
Earrings: Bebe

Kenecia's dress is Guess

I had a great time last night. The atmosphere was just perfect. I think I will be making more visits to aloft! Kenecia was very excited and I'm glad I got to spend this special birthday with her. I met Kenecia and Sheena at church. I had just moved to Harlem, just graduated from NYU and didn't have many friends. I vowed that day that I'd make a new friend and that morning at church I met the two of them.

It was one of the best things that's happened to me since I moved to NY. Kenecia had this leopard dress on and I said to myself: this fashion maven and I are going to be friends! Kenecia is a very talented human being, make-up artist and a talented lyricist and actor. This girl is going to be MAJOR!
Its funny, I've actually met most of my good friends at church including Stephanie and Alicia.

It's hard to make good friends in this fast city which is why I love living in Harlem. It's a little slower than downtown NYC and feels a little more like home (North Carolina) to me. I also think its great that new establishments like aloft and wxyz lounge are popping up all over Harlem.

XOXO
