SCARED Straight (a guide to all things spooky)

Happy Halloween To All

Here's a snapshot of a huge pumpkin carving in Union Square. Below the carver worked diligently as onlookers observed.

So I have compiled a list of some of my favorite scary movies, books and  very scary favorite short stories!

Awesome Horror Movies:
1) Ten Little Indians by Agatha Christie (Also A book: And then there were none) This book is awesome and I discovered it in high school. It is a mystery about 10 people invited to an island and then the murders start...but who is killing them off one by one???? See trailer below.

2).  Wait until dark starring Audrey Hepburn (CLASSIC) as a blind woman who fights off an intruder in her home. Also discovered this gem of a movie in high school. See trailer below.

3). Thinner based on Stephen Kings book Thinner. I gypsy is hell bent on revenge after his daughter is accidentally killed by an overweight man. See trailer below.

Some of my favorite horror movies and books/short stories are classics and either in black and white or super before my time, thats why I love em'

Great scary short stories

Story of an hour: by Kate Chopin (1894) A woman learns of her husbands death with a TWIST. Read it here its only one page long of SHOCKING GOODNESS!

*Lamb to the Slaughter by Roald Dahl. This is by far my favorite short story of ALL TIME! I make everyone I know read it. Heck its only 2 pages that will leave your spine tingling! The tale of a woman scorned! Read it here

The tell tale heart. By Edgar Allen Poe. The story of a murderer and how he came to be found out! One page of terrifying angst! Read it here

Happy Halloween to All
So tell me which of the short stories was your favorite?

Be Safe!

Accessorize Me!

One of my favorite places to go when I need an accessory fix is Jewelry Plaza between 29th and 30th Street in NYC. This place is amazing. They have the hugest selection of earrings, bracelets, rings and scarfs. It's a hidden gem! Earrings range from $3-4 dollars a pair. Scarfs range from $2-8 dollars. Rings range from $5-8 dollars each. They have tons of little card holders, shades, and jewelry holders. I always hit this place up the last week of November to get tons and tons of Christmas gifts for less than $100.

 Look at all those necklaces!

 Look at all these earrings!

 Tons and tons of rings

My favorite section is the scarf collection. I can browse through these all day!

Here's a lovely animal print scarf a got for $6

And two cool rings I got for $6 each.

Bryant Park Beauties

I love Bryant Park. The people watching here is amazing. I also had a wonderful date here all inclusive with lunch, the drunken crazy person, and pigeon poo this year. I go through Bryant Park twice a month to my spa appointments and I always see the most fashionable people on 42 St Bryant Park. So today on my way to my appointment I shot some Bryant Park scenery and Street Fashion Pics.

My outfit for the day.

Top: Forever21
Skirt: Forever21
Socks: American Apparel
Cardigan: H&M
Boots: Vintage from No Relation Vintage NYC ($25!)

Love this fashionista's ensemble especially the studded leather jacket and the bag and shoes!

I love the layered look this chic maven pulls off effortlessly. We bonded over The Sartorialist Blog. One of my favs!

Love how she works a fancy statement necklace with her casual layered look. That necklace really grabbed my attention!

I had to include a picture of the light fixture at The Skin Spa where I went for a treatment today. This is so gorge! One day...maybe I'll have my own. If you are ever at The Skin Spa, I recommend Stephanie. She is AWESOME!

So which look do you like the most?

La Maison: Because fashion starts at home

Fashion is more than a great outfit and killer platform pumps. Inspiration can come from anywhere. From the amber rose color of the sky at sunset to a picture in your mind you get when reading the description of a character in a novel. Your surroundings should always inspire you especially your home. I love my apartment. My taste is stark, modern and colorful. I like clean lines and black and white photography. I also love the color green and have incorporated it into every room. lol. I also have a collection of little things I love.

I love to use word art for inspiration. Something about black and white photos appeals to me.

A foyer is the perfect place for little collected trinkets and it gives your visitors a first impression so style it up with photos and greenary.

Dont forget that bowl of mints and candies! I have to restock my every month lol. I also have a lovely piece of pretrified wood displayed on the table that I love. This flower photo and the candles all came from Marshalls. In fact all of this came from Marshalls except the table and the plant!

Love these masks my mother brought back from her trip to Africa.

This is a nice way to spice up a stark white wall and give the eye something pleasant to look at and the mind something to ponder. Wall Word Art Rocks!

I may be the only person I know who keeps my table always set. Its lovely and nice. More word art...Bon Appetit. You kind find word art online anywhere or at Marshalls. This only cost $5. Its easy to put on and take off too.

I love to use fake foliage because..well you saw the one live plant I have lol. I like the fresh green look. Got these fake flowers for $.99 each at Target.

This is one of my favorite paintings. It has such vivrant colors. Its a group of people dressed in their best to attend a funeral.

Ready to eat????

Love this globe that I got at World Market. Its so rustic. I also like to display items in picture frames instead of pictures, such as my first international plane ticket to Mexico. I love books and like to put my favorites on display for my guest to see.

I forgot where I got this tip but I like to circulate some of my favorite magazines in this wine glass holder. I change the magazines once monthly and my guest love it.

My first piece of framed art work by Nico "Strut"
Isn't she amazing!?!

I think you should always leave one wall for a nice clock.

One of my favorite pictures. Hope to visit Paris one day.

This is my favorite part of my apartment. My huge bay window with 3 large windows. So light and airy. I also like to keep my guitar on display here and pictures of ancient egypt which I'm obsessed with. I like to sit here and drink a cup of acai berry green tea in the mornings.

Hope you enjoyed my home. So tell me what are the things in your home that you get inspiration from?
