another thrift day in Brooklyn

it was a bright and sunny 75 degree Sunday.
It was the perfect day for a thrifting adventure in Williamsburg Brooklyn.
As soon as I hopped off the L train at Bedford I ran directly into a few sidewalk sellers and got the most amazing vintage paisely dress for $15. Damn..I love Brooklyn.
I spent 5 hours hitting vintage shops on 7th Street and walked down to the water for the Brooklyn Flea Market and ended my trip with a browse through Beacons Closet before returning to the city.
Cross Roads has a really great sellection of dresses and shoes!
If you want vintage Artists and Fleas is where you need to be. It is chalk full of vintage dresses. I spent about an hour in here alone trying on floral dresses and jumpers one after the other.
The prices arent very friendly though. Most vendors price everything about 15-25 dollars over what I'd pay but you can always negotiate.
the floral sweet heart vintage dress.... she didnt fit :-(
I ended up buying 2 pair of sunglasses and a vintage dress.
I really had to hold back because I saw so many awesome things. Check out my last two trips to the Brooklyn Flea Market videos HERE and HERE.

I do ALOT of shopping and I mean ALOT.
I have a serious shoe and dress addiction at the moment. I have a couple of number one go to places for things.

Here are my Top 5 Shopping Places
(in no particular order)

Loehmanns
either 101 7th Ave (Chelsea) or 2101 Bway and 72nd
DESIGNERS FOR LESS!
Rebecca Minkoff, Moschino, Style Stalker, Michael Kors, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Valentino
You name it...they got it.
The trick is to catch them during a seasonal sale (up to 50% off tag price) and then throw a coupon on top of that (they often give out 20-25% coupons on an almost weekly basis for club members)
Club members get 10% off every purchase for $25 a year.
It's TOTALLY effing WORTH IT!
Chelsea location is better for SHOES and has a slightly better collection of designers.
72nd Location has better PURSES and Swimwear.

Century 21
22 Cordlandt St
Skip the new one uptown...downtown is sooooo much better
SHOES SHOES SHOES
serious designers too
PURSES PURSES PURSES
The trick is to get there HELLA EARLY preferably on a weekday (Monday is best)
I mean be there before the doors open.
Go to shoes first this section is CRAZY after an hour!
Then clothes!
Then accesories!
Then leave with a sh*tload of stuff.

Forever 21 Times Square
1540 Bway
Perfect for everyday T-Shirts, boyfriend jeans, summer skirts, and straw fedora hats
really you can get a whole wardrobe for under $100
This Forver 21 is the best one in the city, they get the good stuff and its easy to navigate and isn't a dump after being open for 2 hours.

DSW
40 E. 14th St
Hello Shoes Shoes and more Shoes.
They even have L.A.M.B. and Badgley Mischka
Shoes are half off what'd you find in store and online and it pays to be a member as well.
Membership is free and just like loehmanns you get a ton of coupons which you can use in store or online.

Nordstrom Rack
60 E. 14th St
Great for designers as well. Awesome shoe collection with DVF under $80 and tons of awesome jeans too!

MY FAVE ONLINE SHOPS
ASOS
(pronounced A-SAUCE)
You can find anything...neon watches, River Island dresses, strappy sandals, envelope clutches.
Any and everything your heart desires.

Great designers and unique clothing and shoes!

Designers for half the price!

Thrifting/Shopping Tips
Wear slide on shoes especially when going shoe shopping. So much easier than taking on and off shoes. TOM's shoes work perfect for shopping outings. Get them in Black, Grey or Red.
Whew..I'm tired. I think I went to all these places today. haha.
I did pick up a great pair of Nine West sandals from Century 21 for just $70!
Look out for them soon!
If you'd like to go THRIFT SHOPPING or just arrange a shopping trip to some of my favorite places in NYC shoot me an email Monroe.Steele@gmail.com.
Happy Shopping.
What are some of your favorite online places to shop?
I'm looking to expand my online shopping lol.

the $15 faux fur cape

My $15 faux fur cape from Goodwill is most certainly coming in handy now.
I am so inlove with it and Goodwill for providing me with such a fashion STEELE!
This was the first day I took my little darling for a spin and she enjoyed it!

Outfit
Top: Ali & Kris via Loehmanns
Jeans: Free People
Booties: Sole Society see more of my collection HERE
Faux Fur: Vintage Terry Lewis via Goodwill see it HERE a fashion STEELE at $15!

This cape is so lush! I really like the color of it too because it can go with just about everything. See my other favorite Eileen Fisher Cape. I'm gearing up to visit my home town in North Carolina for Christmas. I'm so excited to see my family but I hate that the airlines are such jerks during the holidays. My ticket cost me half a million dollars! UGH! But atleast I will get to spend Christmas with my family. Last year I was unable to. Check out my post from last Christmas!

what are you all doing for the holidays?

Yedi Bandwagon

I've officially gone and jumped on the Yedi Bandwagon. I used to be one of the ones who said WTF I'd never wear a Yedi but here I am eating my words.
Fashion has a way of wearing you down..literally!

Outfit
Coat: Sinequanone via Loehmanns check out my other fashion STEELE's from there HERE
Top: Thrifted from Housing Works see it worn differently HERE
Pants: H&M

I love how the inside of this coat is such a rich purple color as well. I'll tell ya one thing this yedi sure keeps me warm. Speaking of warmth, I've been really into tea lately. It is my new passion and I just discovered Argo Tea in Flatiron and am OBSESSED with it.

Last week I had my first One-On-One Thrift and the City tour..Yay I'm growing! It was pretty awesome and although I convinced myself I wasn't buying anything...I did!
I got two awesome pieces: a lovely champagne colored dress with nice pleated detailing and a vintage jumper (yes its pants not a skirt)!
Total price for both...$22 fashion STEELE!

The tour went rather smoothly and we even had time to stop off at one of my favorite Thai Restaurants for some shopping fuel!

I ended up wearing the thrifted champagne colored dress today for Easter Service at church.
