tis' the season.... to dress fancy

I wish I could be home for Christmas but this year it wasn't possible so I'm spending it with friends. I'm actually really excited because on Christmas day I am going to bake my favorite apple pie and head to the movies to see Django Unchained! I am just in love with Kerry Washington as in actress ever since I got hooked on Scandal (every Thursday my twitter fam and I go nuts!). When this time of year rolls around I gravitate toward classic elegant looks with a twist. So it's no surprise I pulled out my vintage jacquard bell skirt for the day!

parisian thoughts

when i put together this outfit i was thinking of my trip to Paris next year. I am quite excited about it being that its my dream city...next to New York. when i was a teenager living in North Carolina all i could think about was living in New York City. now that i've been here 6 years all I can think about is Paris. I spent high school learning French and reading Le Petit Prince a million times (in french). i used to dream in French. im rusty now. i can read it and write it much better than I can speak it.
i cant wait to roam the streets and visit the vintage shops. i cant wait to visit Musee du Louvre, the Eiffel Tower, Jardin des Tuileries, and Versailles.
but for now the closest I will get to french anything is these YSL pumps.

i love the romantic look of white on satin pearl white. i think for the winter i will be doing a lot of winter whites. the texture of the sweater is what drew me to it. its sooooo luxuriously soft. i topped the look off with a thrifted bag i got during one of my Thrift and the City Tours. I love this vintage jacquard skirt. i've had it for atleast 10 years. I got it from a great vintage shop Time After Time in Chapel Hill, NC. it cost about $10 but i've worn it to very special occasions. the last being New York Fashion Week. During my trip next year to Paris I will be there during fashion week but im all about getting to know the city and if i make it to a show or two...well that's just dandy. My dream hotel to stay in is the Mandarin Oriental Paris. It is such a serence and beautiful hotel.
we shall see how it works out!

do you have a dream city you love?

what i wear most days

if its Spring and you catch me outside of work...chances are I will be wearing a
midi skirt, a high heeled sandal and a t-shirt.
it's simple, it's clean and it looks good without trying too hard.
add an awesometastic showstopper necklace
and im out the door.

Tee: Forever 21 | Skirt: Vintage see it differently HERE | Purse: MAC Mini c/o Rebecca Minkoff |
Shoes: L.A.M.B. Morisa | Necklace: c/o Alue Boutique
This necklace is amazing. It reminds me of egyptian collar necklaces.
I will be wearing it with simple tops to really make it pop. Check out Alue Boutique and their amazing collection of jewelry.
Super psyched I got to wear my new birthday month shoes too.
I find that most L.A.M.B. shoes are really comfortable and easy to walk in and these aren't an exception!
whats your go-to spring look?

paisley...i always fall for you

hello..my name is Monroe Steele
and I'm a paisley fanatic.

Top: Forever 21 | Jacket: Dallin Chase via Loehmanns | Skirt: Vintage/Thrifted see it worn HERE
Shoes: Sole Society | Bag: London Fog via Loehmanns
do you know why I'm smiling??? it's because I am wearing hoop earrings.
seriously check out my last 100 or so posts.
I've haven't worn hoops in forever and it's because my hair was too short.
i like hoops more when my hair has more length.
im busting out my earrings and that can only mean one thing.
MY HAIR HAS GROWN.
Yay.
now...to cut it again or let it grow out...
that is the question.

dressed in neutrals

It's so hard for me to put my whites away. I feel like winter is the perfect time to wear white especially with the weather being a balmy 50+ today.
I don't know what to wear anymore. One day is 14 degrees the next its 55 degrees.
I've decided not to pack my summer things away just yet...

Top: Forever 21 see it worn differently HERE
Skirt: Vintage Thrifted see it worn here in another post
Shoes: Sole Society
I am dressed in all neutrals but I love the pop of the red lip and the golden top. These shoes are a new addition to my collection from Sole Society. I've gotten about 7 pairs of shoes from them so far with my free shoes for a year win that I got at the Blogger Night Out last year. This clutch is one of my favorites too.

Have an awesome weekend!

a modern twist

I got this amazing jacquard belle skirt about 6 years ago at a vintage shop in Chapel Hill North Carolina, Time After Time Vintage Thrift. It instantly reminded me of Carrie Bradshaw my fashion icon. I've actually only worn it once to a semi formal ball. It's perfect for all these holiday parties coming up too.

Outfit
Skirt: Vintage
Top: Forever 21
Shoes: L.A.M.B. via Loehmanns see them worn differently HERE and HERE
Bag: BCBGeneration via Filenes Basement
Jacket: Dallin Chaise via Loehmanns
Watch: BCBG via Loehmanns
This skirt was less than $20 a fashion steele indeed but it looks so lush! It's also really heavy so it can be worn for those special occasions in the winter as well. The skirt to me is so over the top so I decided to give it a modern twist with a plain tee shirt and a leather jacket. See more of my favorite vintage skirts here and here.
